(Zamboanga City/30March 2006) Former Southern Command Chief (Ret.) Gen. Delfin Castro was the resource speaker in today's lecture organized by the School of Education, Arts and Sciences of the Universidad de Zamboanga, with hundreds of students and teachers in attendance at the Summit Centre.
The lecture, centered on "Conflict in Mindanao: The Prospect for Peace", is part of the series planned out by the private-owned university for this school year "to perpetuate the legacy of the founder, Engr. Arturo F. Eustaquio, for total human liberation from ignorance as epitomized in its motto, 'Educacion es Libertad'."
Castro is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy class 1951, and has been a military course trainee in Hawaii, Georgia, and Florida, USA. He was assigned in southern Mindanao as a company commander in Jolo from 1955 to 1956, and later served the Southern Command as commander from 1980 to 1986--the longest serving SouthCom commander.
He authored a book entitled, "A Mindanao Story: Troubled Decades in the Eye of the Storm".
